WordPress 4.0 Beta 1 Is Out

WordPress 4.0 Beta 1 came out earlier today with some notable changes, and amazing new features. You can check the article we posted a couple of days ago about all the new potential features for WordPress 4.0 release at this link.

Here’s a list of changes the team has made in this release:

  • The visual editor will now show previews of oEmbed URLs (#28195) and for the media from the “Insert from URL” tab (#15490) in the media model. Grab & paste URL of a YouTube video onto its own line in the visual editor to see the magic.
  • The Media Library now has a grid view (#24716) in addition to the existing default list view. Clicking on an item takes you into a modal where you can edit file details & more stuff. We posted about this grid view on our WordPress 4.0 preview article.
  • Plugin install page is spotting a new look. They have made some early changes to the plugin install experience. You can see the changes while searching for plugins (#28785) and viewing plugin details (#27440).
  • Now there’s an option to select a language during the installation process to kickoff the internationalization process. (#28577)
  • They have made a lot of changes to the visual and the text editor. The editor now floats when you scroll the page down during writing. More details on #28328 and #28595.
  • Widgets in the Customizer are now loaded in a separate panel. (#27406)

That’s it for the first beta of 4.0 release. You can test WordPress 4.0 by installing the WordPress Beta Tester plugin or you can download the beta by clicking here.
